Natalie Portman Got Married on Saturday, And Something About Her Dress Bothers Me

I mean, the dress itself is pretty simple, which I like. She asked Rodarte to custom make it for her traditional Jewish ceremony to ol' Benny Thousand-Feets, which is cool. But...something about this dress looks "budget", for lack of a better word. The sleeves are stiff and remind me of paper towel rolls, and maybe it's just the way she's standing here, but the hem looks kind of funky. I dunno, I just expected to be wowed by a Rodarte original, and this looks like something that anybody could pick up at their local David's Bridal.

What do you think? Agree or disagree?

  1. It's those boxy sleeves. If they were more form-fitting, I think this would be better!

    1. Yeah, the sleeves are definitely the most off-putting feature.

You know what I keep forgetting? Natalie wears vegan clothing, so it's possible that her dress is made from some kind of specially-made specially-sourced fabric that doesn't behave like we're used to seeing. More power to her if this is the case.

  2. the sleeves look pretty odd to me. Just not my cup of tea.

    1. Agreed. I want to shorten them above the elbow, or at least make them more fitted.

  3. That is one hideous dress. It does look very "budget". Yikes. I am sure one could do better even with vegan fabrics...

    1. I really expect more from high-end designers...but maybe I shouldn't :/

  4. The length of the dress is wrong, the way the skirt goes out is unflattering, the sleeves are too big and the material looks stiff and the flats just add to an awkward look. That's just my 2 cents. I expected so much more.

    1. Personally, I would have opted for wedges, but I can understand the flats for an outdoor wedding. She always wears ugly shoes, again b/c of the vegan thing, but I blame this less on Natalie and more on the designers who refuse to innovate and consider alternative materials in their shoe designs. If a gal with Natalie's $$$ can't find more than a handful of attractive vegan shoes, there must not be many out there to choose from!

  5. I think if the sleeves were more fitted and it looks like she is wearing flats? I don't know, for a fashion icon like Natalie, I am a little disappointed. But shoot, if girlfriend liked it ...

    1. You're absolutely right, of course :)

But if I were Natalie's BFF, I'd feel obligated to say to her "I hope Rodarte didn't overcharge you for that dress, because the tailoring looks like amateur hour."

  6. I'm not a fan either. I'm hoping we get better pics of it and that this is just a horrible photo.

You crack me up. You always tell it like it is :)

    1. I think this pic (and the 3 or 4 others that are floating around out there) might truly be all that we get since Natalie's not the type to sell her *OMG Wedding Exclusive!!!* pics to one of the gossip weeklies. It looks to me like one of the waitstaff snapped this pic on his/her phone on the sly, quit on the spot, then promptly called up People magazine and sold the "exclusive" for thousands of dollars. I'll bet somebody's buying a new car today....
