<div>
"Wait, you're linking to another GOOP post?"</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Yes. I have loved GP since 1994, haters gon' hate, deal with it, etc.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Mainly I'm linking to this post about Spring Cleaning for your closet <a href="http://www.goop.com/journal/do/216/the-edited-closet">HERE</a> because me and everyone else I know went on a cleaning bender this past weekend due to "Springing Forward" and I came *thisclose* to switching out my cold weather wardrobe for my warm weather one (it's already Springtime in GA), but I decided to give it another week or two. In other words, this post was just too timely not to share.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Not to toot my own horn, but I could get a black belt in closet purging and organization. I wasn't always this way, but moving 7 times in 10 years has a tendency to make a person want to streamline as much as possible so that you're not toting around stuff that you don't need/want/doesn't fit. I purge my closet 2 or 3 times a season, separating discarded items into 4 piles: Don't Like, Doesn't Fit, Needs Drycleaning/Mending, Worn Out. The first pile goes into a plastic bag, where it stays for a few months and then gets re-evaluated to see if there are items that can go back into rotation or whether they need to be donated. Pile 2 goes to Goodwill, pile 3 is taken care of accordingly, and pile 4 is trashed. I find that the more often I closet-purge, the more manageable the task becomes (Captain Obvious is obvious). Here are the editing rules that GOOP lays out, and I particularly agree w/ numbers 3 and 6:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div>
1. “If you hold up the garment and can see any body part imprinted in it - i.e. elbows, knees, saggy bums, etc. - it goes out.”</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
2. “Pay particular attention to collars - these are near your face and right in people’s eye line, so any fraying, wear-and-tear or make-up/fake tan stains, etc. means it goes.”</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
3. “Consider the ‘two tries rule:’ if you have put on a garment and then immediately taken it off to wear something else two or more times, let it go. I know, you spent good money on it and have never worn it, but you are not getting that money back by keeping it in your closet. Smile and enjoy the cathartic feeling of de-cluttering.”</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
4. “Nostalgia / gift boxes: Before you begin editing, get at least two substantial storage boxes. Allocate appropriate names for each, such as costume / nostalgia / presents etc. I have seen amazing Burberry suits hung next to Halloween costumes. I know - this is the dress you were wearing when your husband proposed to you, or this is your college sweatshirt that everyone signed... by all means keep it, as it’s a nice part of your history. But why is it in amongst your work blouses?! This makes your closet feel and look completely disorganized, which in turn makes you feel disorganized.”</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
“Box these items up and store them away from your everyday options. You'll be amazed how much extra space and order you'll win back just from this one simple step.”</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
“Same goes for the million pieces of jewelry, scarves and wallets that are not your style. Because they were gifts, you keep them out of guilt. This leaves your jewelry box and closet cluttered full of items that you'll never wear - separate all of these out.”</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
5. “Anything more than 6 months old that still has tags on it was a mistake. It doesn't excite you and/or it doesn't work with your other pieces. We live and learn. Assess what doesn't work, and let it go.”</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
6. “All, and I mean every single thing you own, should make you feel great, from your cashmere sweaters and jeans, to your evening wear.”</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
How about you? Are you a closet-purging master or more of a closet hoarder? Do you have any tried-and-true closet organizing rules that you stick with?</div>

<br />
Darn that Gwyneth Paltrow and her fabulous taste. I love it but I can't afford that price tag. Somebody on Etsy has probably created a knockoff already for between $50-$75, right?<br />
<br />
If you have the scratch to pick one up, you can find it on Gwyneth's GOOP website <a href="http://www.goop.com/shop/exclusive-solange-rad-ring.html">HERE</a>.Whitneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09430359756472736482noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7978354137565535071.post-34700536705580778832013-02-13T14:00:00.003-05:002013-02-13T14:00:37.275-05:00Wise Words<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Her bang up-to-date personal style, her laid-back — to say pared down would be to demean its ordered luxury — apartment in Paris (“the favorite of any home I’ve ever had”), in this, her favored city, shows how subtly she has lived, lives now, without the attendant glare of past pomp and present self-glorification that others crave. She is utterly content, and it shows. What she is not is casual. She regulates her life by standards inbuilt by experience, by nurturing her friendships, by staying true, by her irony, by her humor — all qualities that show she is the real deal. That past sorrows and joys have merged into an elegance that permeates her presence, that “something in the air” that indicates class and courage and composure. Though she now rigorously guards her privacy, her free spirit surfaces easily, and her thoughts come crystal clear. A figure of her time, our history, Lee is her own harbinger for an iconic future. Ours, and hers.</span></i><br />

<br />
The interview goes on to discuss more of Lee's style, her lovers and friends, and she also talks a bit about her family:<br />
<br />
<br /><br /><i>“Were you always aware of your beauty?”<br /><br /><br />“From the word go,” she answers simply and honestly. “But no one else was, then. My mother endlessly told me I was too fat, that I wasn’t a patch on my sister. It wasn’t much fun growing up with her and her almost irrational social climbing in that huge house of my dull stepfather Hughdie Auchincloss in Washington. I longed to be back in East Hampton, running along the beaches, through the dunes and the miles of potato fields my father’s family had owned. And even in summer, when we’d go to to Hammersmith Farm . . . the Auchincloss place in Newport, a house more Victorian or stranger you can’t imagine . . . it wasn’t much better. Well, at least there was the ocean, but naturally my sister claimed the room overlooking Narragansett Bay, where all the boats passed out. All I could see from my window was the cows named Caroline and Jacqueline. (My real first name is Caroline.) Oh, I longed to go back, to be with my father. He was a wonderful man, you’d have loved him. He had such funny idiosyncrasies, like always wearing his black patent evening shoes with his swimming trunks. One thing which infuriates me is how he’s always labeled the drunk black prince. He was never drunk with me, though I’m sure he sometimes drank, due to my mother’s constant nagging. You would, and I would. The only time I ever saw him really drunk was at Jackie’s wedding. He was to give her away, but my mother refused to let him come to the family dinner the night before. So he went to his hotel and drank from misery and loneliness. It was clear in the morning that he was in no state to do anything, and I remember my mother screaming with joy, ‘Hughdie, Hughdie, now you can give Jackie away.’ During the wedding party I had to get him onto a plane back to New York. Accompanied by my first husband, also drunk. It was a nightmare."</i><div>

I'm just posting pictures of the pages that I really personally like since A) I'm pressed for time and B) I'm selfish.</div>

So you're rolling along, middle of winter, secure in your belief that white denim is not appropriate from September to March when BAM!:</div>

This picture of Emmanuelle Alt, Editor in Chief at French VOGUE, pops up on your Pinterest feed and, out of nowhere, you decide you gotta get summa them white jeans asap. Here are more images of Alt in her white skinny jeans:</div>

These pictures aren't new, they've been floating around fashion blogs for the past year, but I guess I didn't really pay much attention since the voice in my head was saying "She's the only person alive who can pull that off." But then her influence started trickling down the fashion food chain, first to the Voguettes in Paris, NYC, and Milan...</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The secret to pulling off white jeans in the winter appears to be combining them with dark boots on the bottom and dark layers on top. I love the white/black/gray combinations most of all since I have a lot of black and gray in my wardrobe to begin with, but I also like this lady's biker/bohemian take in earthier tones:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwCSXpDgaguIN6SGxbMVZADk5dSSm66eWEnMNT24xWsNiJX-e7kWM9OrM5Ze-JGnlQkzvtyIoIctBFQ1OXWeiHsXK2GdanlJRhwlQKOidnHuro-MM4yDwNZL_lBcOiMOahkVJby3OUvwo/s1600/wj10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwCSXpDgaguIN6SGxbMVZADk5dSSm66eWEnMNT24xWsNiJX-e7kWM9OrM5Ze-JGnlQkzvtyIoIctBFQ1OXWeiHsXK2GdanlJRhwlQKOidnHuro-MM4yDwNZL_lBcOiMOahkVJby3OUvwo/s320/wj10.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
And then, when the weather warms up, you have your white jeans that transition perfectly from Winter to Spring or from Summer to Fall.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfDC8QPOttHB0aLnUmRdjQNwoFYQPPx6VPeDv9PATvIhGsVfOvdcqLJagA2HYYjMo8PAERDL2-M3fyP4ePH0cQ4ElMjuQUHZfD1qj3atNCG9uYLPZzOJ9WZLMNlNCYtkrTus_xMrLasA4/s320/wj6.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I bought a pair of J.Crew cropped white denim pants last year, but they lost their shape in the butt and thighs after 2 wears and looked awful, so I donated them to Goodwill and planned to shop for another pair this Summer. However, inspired by these images and a stretch of 75 degree weather, I decided to take advantage of the recent sales at <a href="http://www.madewell.com/index.jsp?navLoc=top_nav">Madewell</a> and bought a pair of their white denim Skinny Skinny jeans at nearly 60% off the original price.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6NUwut532oITmRKiq2lVySRiQ-Bd9Ppsq-qR_5I3AM_R-FZJ000Nc98mvaTsHIMVx89oacX2D0hIk0F_9jT07sVtp7YLoJp4OPyiucNgWSyDwNECXhL07krMBmH3qDcbc1SW24KqE8zE/s1600/white+madewell.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6NUwut532oITmRKiq2lVySRiQ-Bd9Ppsq-qR_5I3AM_R-FZJ000Nc98mvaTsHIMVx89oacX2D0hIk0F_9jT07sVtp7YLoJp4OPyiucNgWSyDwNECXhL07krMBmH3qDcbc1SW24KqE8zE/s320/white+madewell.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<a href="http://www.madewell.com/madewell_category/DENIM/whitedenim/PRDOVR~75012/75012.jsp">Madewell Skinny Skinny Jeans in White Wash</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The only size left available was 2 sizes bigger than my own, but I ordered them anyway because a) Madewell has a free shipping/returns guarantee on jeans, and b) I had planned to go up a size in any pair of white jeans I might have found to try since white pants have the potential to be VERY unflattering if they are too tight. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I tried them on immediately after they arrived and they were definitely too big all over, but I decided to use the mistakes I've made with denim over the years to my advantage. That's right: I washed them on hot and dried them twice on the super hot speed dry cycle. When I pulled them out of the dryer and tried them on again, they were an absolutely perfect fit (and smelled like fresh mountain air)! Now I just need a date night with the BF or a day trip to Atlanta to properly show off my winter whites.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
What do you think? Would you wear white jeans in the winter? Have you already been wearing white jeans in the winter for years and are rolling your eyes like, "Whatevs, Emmanuelle Alt"?</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

Mom was slow to warm up to texting ("Just call me!"), but when I pointed out that I can't call her from work but I can text, she embraced it like a 14-year-old cheerleader and we text almost every day, sometimes all day long. Often our discussions turn to fashion. Here is a conversation from last week.<br />
<br />
<br />
Me: Hi. Madewell just rolled out this shirt this morning:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.madewell.com/madewell_category/SHIRTSTOPS/silkboyshirts/PRDOVR~37109/37109.jsp">Silk Rose Print Boy Shirt</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdNfE24F-j-m0jxNxNqGeu3spV9F9A8w4WwyBRVwJMPzVx7r0DDXpl_Nz2YlUFhxu-OU_gaQR2-1xBfvOfbkzTmTMAjM3y-OZjURju6_EG8gDNswRayqNsVThRMFlPt9peN3oIe5Sy1Dc/s1600/Madewell+blouse.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdNfE24F-j-m0jxNxNqGeu3spV9F9A8w4WwyBRVwJMPzVx7r0DDXpl_Nz2YlUFhxu-OU_gaQR2-1xBfvOfbkzTmTMAjM3y-OZjURju6_EG8gDNswRayqNsVThRMFlPt9peN3oIe5Sy1Dc/s320/Madewell+blouse.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Silk. It's loud but I think I love it. Or maybe I just love the print and the shirt would look stupid on me. What do you think?<br />
<br />
Mom: Very interesting. Pretty. If paired with white or navy (I think it's navy?) it would be great.<br />
<br />
Me: I think it's black. I'd wear it with black pencil skirts/jackets/cardis for work and black skinny jeans + ballet flats on the weekends. Is it TOO MUCH for my personality?<br />
<br />
Mom: No. It's very femme.<br />
<br />
Me: That's what I mean, haha. Is it too Laura Ashley? I'm hoping more for Dorothy Draper/Carleton Varney. Or maybe I should just buy a scarf :p<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Laura Ashley, Wiseley Floral</div>
<br />
Mom: It's more Dorothy Draper than Laura Ashley. I really don't like what they have done to The Greenbrier, though. Dorothy Draper on crack!<br />
<br />
Me: That's because of the casino. Nouveau riche gamblers don't speak "subtle". I imagine that Carleton Varney was given the the order to combine Dorothy Draper w/ Vegas, so this was actually a pretty good outcome. Could be worse.<br />

Well, I knew that the Rose Print blouse was one that I'd have to try on to know for sure if I would love it or hate it, so I used Madewell's free ship over $100 promo and it arrived in the mail today.<br />

<br />
I'll be darned - I love it (note presence of nosy dog at lower left). I'm not sure why I love it, but it might have something to do with the fact that I'm a child of the 80's and, now that I live 90 minutes away from Atlanta, this blouse is the closest I've ever been to becoming one of the cast of Designing Women:<br />

I ordered the Medium, which is my usual size for Madewell's silk Boy Shirts (I also have the <a href="http://www.madewell.com/madewell_category/SHIRTSTOPS/silkboyshirts/PRDOVR~20442/20442.jsp">Horseplay Silk Boy Shirt</a>, naturally). The print is LOUD, and I'm usually not drawn to loud prints. Once when I was ironing my shirts during study abroad in London, my flatmate said, "Don't take this the wrong way, but I've never seen so many plain black tee shirts in my life."</div>

<br />
The blouse has a beautiful, fluid drape. Knotted at the waist with the sleeves rolled up, it helps to lessen the impact of ALL THOSE ROSES. I love it with my faded black skinnies, but I can definitely see it with white shorts or cropped trousers and espadrilles in the summer.<br />

<br />
It looks great under a tailored black blazer (note presence of nosy dog in lower right corner). I feel like I should wait until Spring to wear such a punchy floral to work, but I have a huge urge to wear it tomorrow! That's how I know I really love something; I can't wait to wear it someplace. If you ever see me at the grocery store and I look a bit overdressed, you can be sure that whatever I'm wearing is brand new. Obviously I need to work on the whole "instant gratification" thing.<br />
<br />
Or...maybe I should wait a day or two before I decide to keep it, just until I'm sure that I'm not just feeling the emotional high that comes with buying new clothes.<br />
<br />
What do you think? Too much? Too much in a good way?<br />

Intrigued by the idea of a sweatshirt with some sparkle, and appreciative of the fact that the sparkle wasn't smack-dab in the middle of the model's chest as usual, I decided to buy this sweatshirt when it rolled out on the J.Crew website last week.</div>

Cute, right? I love the way that they styled it online, with jeans, white collared shirt, red flats and red lips. I thought it would be great to wear this sweatshirt to my friend's Christmas party, or maaaaaaybeeeee I could even get away with it to work with last year's <a href="http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Navigation/Sale/AllProducts/PRDOVR~64911/99102595191/ENE~1+2+3+22+4294967294+20~30~~20+17+4294966837~15~~~~~~~/64911.jsp?srcCode=AFFI00001&siteId=J84DHJLQkR4-Sy7C5RuobPw4l0xnlLYs3A">Cafe Capris in Wool Check</a> during the week between Christmas and New Year's Eve when everyone will be out on vacay.<br />

<br />
My first impression from seeing it through the plastic was that the gray color was darker than pictured online, and less heathered in appearance. Once I had it on, I was disappointed in how short and boxy it was. I liked the weight of the shirt, but the cut just made me look thick.<br />

Side view. Size M. The bottom sort of hangs straight down from my chest, and the sleeves are just a touch short, although not really enough to bother me.<br />

I do love the placement of the beading and the open crewneck. I think that you could size down if your chest is on the small side, and you'd get a more fitted shirt with bracelet-length sleeves.<br />

Close-up of the beading. The crystals are a smoky color, which gives them a more subtle antique look as opposed to stuck on with a Be-Dazzler. The knit could stand to be a little softer, and it would soften in the wash, but how many times are you going to risk washing the shirt, and how soft will it even get with a few light hand-washings? I'd hate to ruin the beading.<br />

Here's a color comparison with another J.Crew sweatshirt that I bought a few years ago - I think it's one of the Haya sweatshirts but I can't remember (ETA: silver_lining let me know that this is actually the Jaspe Boyfriend Sweatshirt from 2009).<br />

The Jaspe sweatshirt is one of my favorites, and after I changed into it to walk the dog I knew I'd be sending the Embellished Sweatshirt back. As you can see, a longer length, slimmer fit, and lighter weight is much more flattering on my figure. I'm a little bummed out, but I'm glad that I got to try it on in person.<br />
<br />
To change the subject, I had a birthday in October and my awesome mother bought me the Tory Burch bracelet I had been coveting:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.toryburch.com/FOX-HEAD-HINGE-BRACELET/32125801,default,pd.html?dwvar_32125801_color=710&start=6&cgid=accessories-jewelry">Tory Burch Fox Head Hinge Bracelet</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9IRTIw1JDanP9X1wQr7m0D-B7ce9p3HpZKfhgv8HbmoW2QKW-GZgTFxh9Tx8tu2M_IGhtvSCe6_4i03eX1YFDp1DHwOLYcyXXNnitya97AIYwAl6WFIGmLYBlhHiPN1u9VRbN63Ed_6c/s1600/Tory+Fox+Bangle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9IRTIw1JDanP9X1wQr7m0D-B7ce9p3HpZKfhgv8HbmoW2QKW-GZgTFxh9Tx8tu2M_IGhtvSCe6_4i03eX1YFDp1DHwOLYcyXXNnitya97AIYwAl6WFIGmLYBlhHiPN1u9VRbN63Ed_6c/s320/Tory+Fox+Bangle.jpg" width="281" /></a></div>
Well, it arrived in the mail after a long backorder, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that it was a cheap piece of crap. It was about as heavy as a wad of tinfoil, and the hinge that allowed it to open and close over my wrist was set on an angle so that the fox's face was skewed to the right. It had cost my mother nearly $250.00 at retail plus tax and shipping, which was appalling to me once I saw it in person, so I said "Eff this!" and immediately called my mom who told me to ship it back. I'll think twice before ordering any Tory Burch jewelry again.<br />
<br />
Mom suggested this necklace as a replacement after I pointed it out to her online:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

She said that it reminded her of a necklace that my grandmother used to wear in the 1950's (my grandmother later told me that her necklace was actually gold leaves with rhinestones, but the style was very similar to the Bow Collar Necklace). Mom was able to buy it on promo as well, making the total less than half of that overpriced bracelet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I LOVE it. It's the perfect counterpoint to some of my more tomboyish outfits, and also adds glitz to a simple solid-colored sheath dress. It's adjustable, so you can wear it sitting high over the collarbone...<br />

...or dipped lower over the top of the chest, which is the perfect length to wear on the outside of a collared shirt. I wore it this way on Thanksgiving Day and got tons of compliments, so - in the end - I'm glad that the Fox Bracelet didn't work out after all!<br />

Have you tried any of the items from J.Crew's most recent rollout? I got into an argument with My Better Judgement this morning over J.Crew's new arrivals.</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Me: I like that! I still like to put birds on things!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
MBJ: Have you bought a J.Crew Tee in the past year that has not developed holes under the arms?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Me: No.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
MBJ: Do you want to risk having to throw away an $80.00 tee shirt after one wear?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Me: *sigh* No.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
MBJ: And let's not forget that 4 years ago you could buy a tee like this for $45.00 that would not get holes in it. </div>

Me: I know, you're right.</div>

MBJ: And it costs $495.00! Are you on crack?<br />

Me: See, this is a winter staple, I could wear this for years.<br />
MBJ: I'm not going to argue with you on that. Only...you don't wear all of the sweaters you own now.<br />
Me: We've talked about how much that bothers me.<br />

MBJ: Yes you do, remember the camel and red tartan Doncaster trench? Hanging in the closet in your parents' house because you knew you wouldn't get to wear it very much in GA?<br />
Me: Oh.<br />
MBJ: Yeah. Plus, look at that picture. That coat even makes the model look thick through the middle, so you know it would make you look like Mr. Staypuft. Is that what you want?<br />

<br />Me: OMG.<br />
MBJ: OMG. If you were cooler, you would totally have someplace to wear this dress over the holidays. Why are you so lame?<br />

MBJ: Whatever, you can't afford it anyway. <br />
Me: If it was a really special event, I'd buy it. <br />
MBJ: It looks short-waisted.<br />
Me: I'd buy a bigger size and get it fitted. Might as well if I was going to spend $1500.00 on a dress.<br />
MBJ: A fabulous dress.<br />
Me: Yes, it is a fabulous dress.<br />
MBJ: I'm sorry for being a bitch before.<br />
Me: Thanks, it's ok. Maybe someday I'll have an exciting reason to drop $1500.00 on a party dress.<br />
MBJ: You'd better hurry, you're getting older and I don't think that saggy boobs go very well with sequins and maribou feathers.<br />

For realz. I mean, Darcy and Lizzie knew each other for about a year before they got engaged, but most Regency heroines have no problem hitching their wagon to a total stranger after one mug of mulled wine so long as he can lay claim to $5,000 a year! Of course, back then most people died before they were 50, so making hay while the sun still shone was warranted.</div>

<br />
This is a picture of my grandfather. He was 21 years old, serving as an MP in General Patton's 4th Armored Division in Europe during WWII. He passed away two weeks ago at the age of 89.<br />
<br />
We shared a middle name, a love of dry roasted sunflower seeds, and a belief in the importance of honesty, reliability, and service to one's community. I never once heard him say the words "I love you" to me or anyone else in my family... but he was a man for whom actions spoke louder than words. If he loved you, you knew it. I miss him today, and I'll miss him for the rest of my life.<br />
<br />
On this Veterans Day, I thought I'd do a little post in his honor. He wasn't much for goodbyes; he always said "I'll be seeing you." That was also the title to one of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oL60OQLekWQ">his favorite songs</a>, which was published in 1938 and became a beloved anthem for American and British soldiers serving overseas during WWII. I think of him whenever I hear it.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Depressing but true, this is the only thing from the entire new rollout that I really like. I'm coming to realize that I don't like Tom Mora as a designer...he and I don't mesh well together in regards to our style sensibilities. J.Crew's unofficial tagline has always been "classics with a twist", and now it appears that the "twist" part is "ugly". Blergh. Well, here are my runners-up:
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqsPMYnAGlysJB2izC5wDwke3mOONUev50V8iaexB7lU0F92ncAPrwk4Ds22pfiFhChvAt-_M5ezINosIJfzbRBs-cWYkjp3A12IjQH8cFi_BHQjVn3GtwRxO_b3Wq4XJuPjlksM94jUE/s1600/emma+top.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqsPMYnAGlysJB2izC5wDwke3mOONUev50V8iaexB7lU0F92ncAPrwk4Ds22pfiFhChvAt-_M5ezINosIJfzbRBs-cWYkjp3A12IjQH8cFi_BHQjVn3GtwRxO_b3Wq4XJuPjlksM94jUE/s400/emma+top.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
The <a href="http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/shirtsandtops/sleeveless/PRDOVR~24154/24154.jsp">Emma Top</a> is the newest variation of their sleeveless silk chiffon tops like the Naomi and the Natasha. They are great tops for work under a jacket or cardi, but I'm not sure how that big ol' clown collar will fit under another layer. I might try it to find out.
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1bgSrIw_HOyxpXNTXMMKbfA8G9gjZA0HfxX5Qh4Wg7cnyAxZpQKln6GfjQuT2HugAGVo9G3nwu6UYoLOLbfJi6XhcZCvs_6Rwgl5lW2bIzwAmxVHaRnKIE_omyishSPiUfo_TaBV9dqA/s1600/peplum+dress+in+stretch+wool.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1bgSrIw_HOyxpXNTXMMKbfA8G9gjZA0HfxX5Qh4Wg7cnyAxZpQKln6GfjQuT2HugAGVo9G3nwu6UYoLOLbfJi6XhcZCvs_6Rwgl5lW2bIzwAmxVHaRnKIE_omyishSPiUfo_TaBV9dqA/s400/peplum+dress+in+stretch+wool.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
One of the few knee-length dresses they offer, this <a href="http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/dresses/weartowork/PRDOVR~25309/25309.jsp">Peplum Dress in Stretch Wool</a> is pretty and on-trend (maybe even a little behind the peplum trend, actually). Fit is another story, though, and I'm not sure this is right for my figure.
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU8x6wtG9u5EWOT3ErVna3j3EFz1drvL6GRy0aGB8pQkAVw7zo8FzsF299UDNRHqu3mLObtJrucShQN3D6z76O1LqpuNMTlL680v_xOdMAqHJBkOQLKE6Qgg-thFYtc6lcaKAuqfIZIv4/s1600/pajama+set+in+flannel+gingham.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU8x6wtG9u5EWOT3ErVna3j3EFz1drvL6GRy0aGB8pQkAVw7zo8FzsF299UDNRHqu3mLObtJrucShQN3D6z76O1LqpuNMTlL680v_xOdMAqHJBkOQLKE6Qgg-thFYtc6lcaKAuqfIZIv4/s400/pajama+set+in+flannel+gingham.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
I do love flannel pajamas, and these <a href="http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/sleepwear/PRDOVR~22588/22588.jsp">Flannel Gingham</a> ones come in navy and fuschia. Mom usually buys me a new set of pajamas for Christmas every year, so this is an easy pick. Also, doesn't that model resemble Katie Holmes quite a bit? I think J.Crew noticed how much she wears their clothes and they're trying to reel her in for some more free publicity ;)
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivacLQYmsBChO-ZXaLDq-QqKDhV9fJNGubQZGqdOZQew1C89leSnLKXAOAQ_cd4GB4Cg7eOCLHgPwXE009Iki5LDZWlMdm3qKOJS2RA9jhEPa_Xo5Uimxi613V4_ZjNFCYU2mwOr7IAmY/s1600/cabochon+and+crystal+bracelet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivacLQYmsBChO-ZXaLDq-QqKDhV9fJNGubQZGqdOZQew1C89leSnLKXAOAQ_cd4GB4Cg7eOCLHgPwXE009Iki5LDZWlMdm3qKOJS2RA9jhEPa_Xo5Uimxi613V4_ZjNFCYU2mwOr7IAmY/s400/cabochon+and+crystal+bracelet.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
This <a href="http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/jewelry/bracelets/PRDOVR~47638/47638.jsp">Cabochon and Crystal Bracelet</a> is different and kind of cool - you can see a better shot of the cabochons on the model in the Bracelet Header. $78.00 for resin, glass, and brass isn't a bad deal; I hope they offer it in more colors eventually.
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXkZrG2gNBcrNAmOdMJhyQYGAPKmxVoCzIOMe29ANZuCm2aJyyVhAU_rr9YQSOTSBwhsch6uyHahkeubuSW25yoE3c2_N7Cc5cIPi98lT5B35OGKxXFKQU_UlVJTnSYGKvjhktU6wEbKI/s1600/enameled+fu+dog+bracelet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXkZrG2gNBcrNAmOdMJhyQYGAPKmxVoCzIOMe29ANZuCm2aJyyVhAU_rr9YQSOTSBwhsch6uyHahkeubuSW25yoE3c2_N7Cc5cIPi98lT5B35OGKxXFKQU_UlVJTnSYGKvjhktU6wEbKI/s400/enameled+fu+dog+bracelet.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
I like this playful <a href="http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/jewelry/bracelets/PRDOVR~47705/47705.jsp">Enameled Fu Dog Bracelet</a>, but I wish they had done the enamel in red or chartreuse. I think it would make a bigger visual impact.
What do you think about the new line? Are you a fan of Tom Mora? Can you believe how many freaking pastels they used TWO MONTHS before the big holiday season???

All of a sudden everything became too twee for me and all the tops and dresses were backless or had cut-outs that made it impossible to wear them with a regular bra. Plus, I can't wear all of those drapey and/or gathered knits. Too much flowy fabric on a big-boobed girl just makes your whole body look larger. Ask Jessica Simpson.<br /><br />However, Anthro's shoes are like little works of art, and their household goods are too cool for school. Item #4:<br /><br /><em>She ate the same lunch every day: a whole-wheat peanut-butter-and-marmalade sandwich, washed down with scotch. "Peanut Butter is the greatest invention since Christianity," she said.</em><br /><br />Scotch at lunch? They really went for it back in the olden days, didn't they? "Why Don't You...get hammered on your lunch break?"<br /><br />I just happened to have all of the ingredients available in my pantry to make Diana's sandwich, and I substituted iced tea for scotch since it's about the same color and I doubt I'd make it back to the office if I tried to knock back a few fingers of the hard stuff with my sammy.<br /><br />Know what? I have a new favorite lunch sandwich. Fast, filling, and tasty. Plus I'll save $$$ since all three ingredients are cheap and I can eat a week's worth of lunches for less than $10 (and feel very fashionable while doing it).<br /><br />Thanks, DV!<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5iv2QT2FDaIfvZGNBPvYz6adRJNcpNSpdSNtzpFl_vmMciFFIf714VNZrOS7CGSYhLy9Not8DwH0Tp0_eRLa8cTyf_xsVxL5csLGbdc_FGLzqy3Mj0MmaKFnZMZe-xjDcmPIwDDFPdGw/s1600/Diana%2527s+Sandwich.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5iv2QT2FDaIfvZGNBPvYz6adRJNcpNSpdSNtzpFl_vmMciFFIf714VNZrOS7CGSYhLy9Not8DwH0Tp0_eRLa8cTyf_xsVxL5csLGbdc_FGLzqy3Mj0MmaKFnZMZe-xjDcmPIwDDFPdGw/s400/Diana%2527s+Sandwich.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5785123220959874418" /></a><br /><br /><em>Image of Diana Vreeland from Wikipedia.com.</em>Whitneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09430359756472736482noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7978354137565535071.post-75785420713532870902012-08-28T14:31:00.004-04:002012-08-28T15:18:30.375-04:00J.Crew Tippi Sweater Size ComparisonI've seen a few people in the blogosphere commenting that the new Swiss Dot Tippi Sweater runs bigger than last year's solid-colored Tippi sweater. Since I just received the FA12 Swiss Dot Tippi in the mail today, I thought that I would line it up with my Fiesta Purple Tippi from FA11 and do a little comparison.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguYYy0iGFRLBDeDirUA0ow8U6oF5e0rnar-Z6_xkRpfRW7iBVgiAdlQ1gB9L1wur0UbTRcKowogmQrBLSqV9PkTvLA0qneJpIwSsavFnjYgEnht7-rQDuZG4rNe9warL2bVFlcI56mqhk/s1600/side+sweaters.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguYYy0iGFRLBDeDirUA0ow8U6oF5e0rnar-Z6_xkRpfRW7iBVgiAdlQ1gB9L1wur0UbTRcKowogmQrBLSqV9PkTvLA0qneJpIwSsavFnjYgEnht7-rQDuZG4rNe9warL2bVFlcI56mqhk/s400/side+sweaters.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5781793941151988466" /></a><br /><br />Both sweaters are size Medium, 100% Merino, same weight, same thickness. The ribbed trim at the hem and cuffs is exactly the same. The major difference between the solid 2011 Tippi and the 2012 Swiss Dot is the neckline where, as you can see, the Swiss Dot has a banded finish as opposed to a ribbed one. It also has a little button closure in the back, which makes it a bit dressier overall, imo.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLMXGT-KD1y7sYOAoctzoWVimN7JM5AM3cAk2FW1NORo8IuesN558W322loA2JslzLm2mbxYIY9n6wfE-lsTIhXQibhUNxcrugYVUU9nubFPm6QF4LQK-9b5iYccI3hHVNKG4qJwfXKJE/s1600/top+sweaters.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLMXGT-KD1y7sYOAoctzoWVimN7JM5AM3cAk2FW1NORo8IuesN558W322loA2JslzLm2mbxYIY9n6wfE-lsTIhXQibhUNxcrugYVUU9nubFPm6QF4LQK-9b5iYccI3hHVNKG4qJwfXKJE/s400/top+sweaters.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5781793930244020594" /></a><br /><br />Here are the two sweaters stacked on top of one-another. I lined up the shoulder seams and it looks like:<br /><br />Length from collar to hem = Same<br />Length of sleeves = Same<br />Width of sleeves = Same-ish<br />Width of body = Swiss Dot Tippi is roughly 1/2"-3/4" wider than last year's Solid Tippi<br /><br />Trying it on, though, I couldn't tell a difference in fit.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8LVFr4rQSE-pOc5BUNk6cDARUlODdWYqeePamqX-JKSMcdCYW1rc4Z-6GcmkYq-tkshUj684N87uK8YKWSHPq9HRRnmUxnDvyPKnythjd6rdG-wNQOF84dmN94K0BMRHcXLUWs3js1q4/s1600/me+front.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8LVFr4rQSE-pOc5BUNk6cDARUlODdWYqeePamqX-JKSMcdCYW1rc4Z-6GcmkYq-tkshUj684N87uK8YKWSHPq9HRRnmUxnDvyPKnythjd6rdG-wNQOF84dmN94K0BMRHcXLUWs3js1q4/s400/me+front.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5781793921245979042" /></a><br /><br />Swiss Dot Front. I only tried it on for a minute or two since it's a very hot day and not really suitable for a wool sweater. My hair is such a mess...I actually felt the moment it surrendered to the humidity when I hit the front door this morning.<br /><br />I hope this helps some of you who are looking to order the Swiss Dot Tippi and don't live close enough to a B&M to try it on first. If anyone else has info on the way any of this year's solid/patterned Tippis compare to last year's Tippi's size-wise, please share your observations!<br />Whitneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09430359756472736482noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7978354137565535071.post-18739402959789288532012-08-22T16:50:00.011-04:002012-08-25T13:08:09.982-04:00J.Crew Reviews: A Popback, Some Final Sale Stuff, and A Great White ShirtIt's still hot here in GA, so I've accepted the fact that I will just have to ignore all of the lovely woolens that have appeared in stores for Fall until perhaps early October, when most of these shiny new items will hopefully have started to hit the sale rack. In the meantime, I picked up a few wardrobe items that I needed and/or were on sale at J.Crew.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/knitstees/sweatshirtsandcardigans/PRDOVR~97900/97900.jsp">Tortoise Button Sweatshirt in Stripe</a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_PzGEmdIyRp9xiM4JzvyHCd-gVyXGx7zn0NBxy_3b3s7B9z8hWgCAHcmU4sJkUmncyRKJN41ne8ISE897YctjNSa_fOxOVVeP4ojN7htAifZeRKtJba02L1Mj-mjg80sxDrDk4a-IF0A/s1600/Tortoise+Button+Sweatshirt+in+Stripe.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_PzGEmdIyRp9xiM4JzvyHCd-gVyXGx7zn0NBxy_3b3s7B9z8hWgCAHcmU4sJkUmncyRKJN41ne8ISE897YctjNSa_fOxOVVeP4ojN7htAifZeRKtJba02L1Mj-mjg80sxDrDk4a-IF0A/s400/Tortoise+Button+Sweatshirt+in+Stripe.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5768760937107326706" /></a><br /><br />I'll start off with something that I did not need but bought anyway: the Tortoise Button Sweatshirt in Navy/Red Stripe. Navy, red, and tortoise-shell will always get my attention. It's cotton, so I can wear it all year long whenever I am cold. It's more like a heavy-knit tee than a sweatshirt, similar to my Saint James mariniere, so it looks durable and should last me for a long time.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt1rEaU6_MNDGSaOXVrjS2kWfJNfjIRshkorGILEmaAip0yBFLmodEleh578_BV_UviJaG2kaLx5tqSV11qHgjfza0xFqO8bVKw-HD2U8QFZtYErf-Spi6i1VExjv5CnSFy3YKMPMvyBs/s1600/stripe+shirt.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 341px; height: 298px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt1rEaU6_MNDGSaOXVrjS2kWfJNfjIRshkorGILEmaAip0yBFLmodEleh578_BV_UviJaG2kaLx5tqSV11qHgjfza0xFqO8bVKw-HD2U8QFZtYErf-Spi6i1VExjv5CnSFy3YKMPMvyBs/s400/stripe+shirt.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5779223830893423010" /></a><br /><br />Bought a Medium and it fits TTS. A little boxy, but the length is fine as long as it doesn't shrink in the dryer. The fabric is just a bit stiff, but - again - this is how my Saint James tee was when I bought it and it softened up nicely after a few washes.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/shirtsandtops/casualshirts/PRDOVR~44541/44541.jsp">Boy Shirt in Classic White</a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHf_I996PoWmf2lSU1E8a44VvCWwqe3iMHTIVSs2kh1GV2pTQaT9dySXtxPavM30pjsWvH1ExUliXkD8nDQMMiQfiA0vrymqDEyBAd_WRupy_7cZbOKyi2yseVUmv_pytvblDwahob5MU/s1600/Boy+Shirt+in+Classic+White.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHf_I996PoWmf2lSU1E8a44VvCWwqe3iMHTIVSs2kh1GV2pTQaT9dySXtxPavM30pjsWvH1ExUliXkD8nDQMMiQfiA0vrymqDEyBAd_WRupy_7cZbOKyi2yseVUmv_pytvblDwahob5MU/s400/Boy+Shirt+in+Classic+White.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5768760936287978818" /></a><br /><br />I know that what I really need is a tailor so that I can buy large shirts and have them altered to fit me and my big chest, but I am a silly human and continue to buy button-downs and expect them to fit right out of the box. I will never understand why the only J.Crew button-down that really fits me is a boy fit without stretch. Weird. Most of the time if I size up to fit my bust, the waist and shoulders are huge. If I size down to fit my waist and shoulders, the buttons gape like crazy over the chest (ah, the mournful tune of the busty girl's lament...). There is a little more fabric around the middle than I would like, but it's not nearly as sloppy looking as some others I've tried on. The fabric is thinner than both J.Crew's Stretch Perfect Shirts and a traditional Oxford button-down, but I had no see-through issues wearing it to work with a nude bra underneath.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGJ-BTU7bikYxzWznzTb9F0rD-Nri-DfWo_LmOXFvp2-L_C8YNJuyqRDZJWKBLVtUQkis2jCPcfOrSF6nRB228T98LdHsYfZqxPSXZk55NuIngM9Bb0XLv8z7ZHQgThnqvpeOFxkA3UW4/s1600/skirt.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 244px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGJ-BTU7bikYxzWznzTb9F0rD-Nri-DfWo_LmOXFvp2-L_C8YNJuyqRDZJWKBLVtUQkis2jCPcfOrSF6nRB228T98LdHsYfZqxPSXZk55NuIngM9Bb0XLv8z7ZHQgThnqvpeOFxkA3UW4/s400/skirt.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5779217126198406114" /></a><br /><br />Here is the shirt as I wore it to work last week, pictured with J.Crew's <a href="http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Navigation/Sale/AllProducts/PRDOVR~79134/99102682166/ENE~1+2+3+22+4294967294+20~~P_saleprice%7C0~20+17+4294966792~90~~~~~~~/79134.jsp">No.2 Pencil Skirt in Neon Tweed</a>. I picked it up on Final Sale since the No.2's are pretty consistent in the way that they fit. However, this skirt fits small. I've been buying my wallets there for about 10 years now and they are the best.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE-dZqB3TE_yGEyYDgU7Zv-9hOE0Pe9OfuYM0RPD06FDfgC3nZ4vf4i4JXADdaXHMeNdOJMPLQ9wbKTq2nHoZWaEqPA2Wa3N4CUMN5O87YNoow-hzIYYLMp4EpHXKxSZwakGr0mFrv3OI/s1600/bag+and+me.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE-dZqB3TE_yGEyYDgU7Zv-9hOE0Pe9OfuYM0RPD06FDfgC3nZ4vf4i4JXADdaXHMeNdOJMPLQ9wbKTq2nHoZWaEqPA2Wa3N4CUMN5O87YNoow-hzIYYLMp4EpHXKxSZwakGr0mFrv3OI/s400/bag+and+me.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5779218546916249602" /></a><br /><br />Here it is hanging on my shoulder - perfect size for errands or a day trip.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/shirtsandtops/sleeveless/PRDOVR~85685/99102734305/ENE~1+2+3+22+4294967294+20~~P_saleprice%7C0~20+17+4294966980~90~~~~~~~/85685.jsp">Stripe Silk Cami</a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizlHm2hOFJNt5FuKw93iRv5GlORIMwi3o_lb7j3NJL_edhEvWfK8Fiwhj2uHsTJV-hWMsdDUMqfUciMnIpW1JHl0ClYPSUT6t4-V62ZOw-OZ5DVuouHeTnz5YF6vgt9BjIDkuykcaPkEE/s1600/silk+stripe.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizlHm2hOFJNt5FuKw93iRv5GlORIMwi3o_lb7j3NJL_edhEvWfK8Fiwhj2uHsTJV-hWMsdDUMqfUciMnIpW1JHl0ClYPSUT6t4-V62ZOw-OZ5DVuouHeTnz5YF6vgt9BjIDkuykcaPkEE/s400/silk+stripe.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5779219231017962050" /></a><br /><br />Another Final Sale purchase, I bought this top to wear to work under blazers and cardis. Size 8, fits TTS. You can also see it on AJC <a href="http://ajcshoppinnghabit.blogspot.com/2012/07/jcrew-reviews-and-banana-republic-sale.html">here</a>. It's 100% silk, lined in polyester. I like this cami but I don't love it, and I think that might actually be due to the fact that I have to wear a racerback bra with it. My racerback bra is not super comfy and the straps rub red marks where my neck meets my shoulders, so I'd probably like it a lot more if I could wear it with a regular bra.<br /><br />That's all of my reviews for now...what have you purchased from J.Crew lately? The big buzz around the new Fall rollout has been all about the <a href="http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/sweaters/crewnecks/PRDOVR~14492/14492.jsp">French Hen sweater</a>, which is very cute, but I passed because it's made from Dream yarn (yuck) and also because I don't think it's really "me". She asked Rodarte to custom make it for her traditional Jewish ceremony to ol' Benny Thousand-Feets, which is cool. But...something about this dress looks "budget", for lack of a better word. The sleeves are stiff and remind me of paper towel rolls, and maybe it's just the way she's standing here, but the hem looks kind of funky. I dunno, I just expected to be wowed by a Rodarte original, and this looks like something that anybody could pick up at their local David's Bridal.<br /><br />What do you think? The blazer is designed by the Canadian company <a href="http://smythelesvestes.com/">Smythe</a>, it's simply called "The One-Button Blazer in Navy", and Kate wore it last year during her Canadian grand tour with Wills. It used to be offered for sale at Neiman Marcus <a href="http://www.neimanmarcus.com/p/Smythe-One-Button-Blazer-Contemporary/prod123480012/">here</a>, but it appears to be sold out. <a href="http://arts.nationalpost.com/2011/07/16/a-canadian-designed-jacket-fit-for-a-princess/">Here</a> is an article from The National Post detailing the jacket's journey to Kate's closet.
