Often Imitated...

Blair from Atlantic-Pacific recently posted a retrospective of some of her outfits from 2012. Looking at this post reminds me of why I internally snicker whenever I see a staged shot of a copycat fashion blogger wearing three shirts, eleven bracelets, and a pair of sunglasses that are almost as big as her entire head: you can buy clothes, but you can't buy style. That's why Blair works for Tory Burch.

Man, it must feel great to set the industry standard (if "fashion blogging" can be considered an industry).

  1. I don't follow her blog and looking at these outfits I would say I like about 1/3 of them. I'm not a fan of Tory Burch either so that may explain it. To each their own though, it's good we don't all like the same things.

    1. Blair's style is way too "trend salad" for me personally, but I think she does brights and pattern mixing better than most. I like seeing what she'll come up with next...and then seeing which bloggers try to re-create it the next day. Most of A-P's outfits are hits but there have been a few misses (I hate the "Carrie Bradshaw" tulle skirts).

  2. I like to see what Blair puts together, although none of her looks would translate to my real life. I do always wonder about that job of finding clothes, putting together outfits, having your picture taken almost every day and posting the photos online-then reading your fan mail. It seems so unreal to me.

    1. What's more unreal to me is that someone once estimated that she makes $25k *a month* from ads and click-through links, not to mention all the c/o stuff she gets. That explains a lot of the copycatting. I do think that she wears these outfits to work irl since she works in fashion, which makes her less weird than the ones who admit to putting on outfits just for photos and then changing back into sweatpants.

    2. I like Blair's style on Blair, she owns it. She is the It Girl I never was and never could be but I admire from afar. For my own inspiration I always want to remove half of the accessories and colors but she is an eye candy.

    3. Blair has an agent. I think at this point a lot of the corralling is helped along by fetchers of some sort. I am inspired by her style, but more as a lookie-lou than copy cat. ;) The only thing that has struck me as odd about her site is the lack of copy. Very little interaction with her fans, but I guess that's a style choice, too.

Even if she *did* change back into sweats after her shoots, I wouldn't be mad at her. We know J Crew hasn't been a very good style guide lately. *Ba-dum-bump*

  3. I don't always like all of Blair's outfits, but I always admire them. She just "has it". And some of the copycats are hilarious, there are certain things that nobody but Blair seems to pull off.

  4. I have followed Atlantic Pacific for a while and I think that she has amazing style and instinct when it comes to clothes etc. Her outfits may not translate into our daily lives but I don't think that is the point. She is documenting her sartorial journey. You either admire or you don't and I choose to admire!

  5. she does have a great editorial taste and her pictures are always so well done. but, i agree that it doesn't always translate well for real life.
